RFID: Tracking everything, everywhere!

Symbol RFID Reader

Radio frequency identification (RFID) is a simple concept with enormous implications. Place a RFID tag on your products, and a RFID reader can scan the item even if the tag is out of view. You will save time while performing inventory counts, eliminate lost or misdirected shipments, and will instantly know how much material is in the supply chain or on your shelves.

A tag can be applied to almost any physical item, from ballpoint pens to toothpaste. After tagging, your tagged items have their own unique identifiers on the embedded chip. When scanned by your reader, the chip sends out an identification signal for use with your tracking or inventory systems.

RFID uses a numbering scheme called EPC (Electronic Product Code) which provides a unique identity for each of your products. The EPC is intended to replace the UPC barcode used on many products today.

Unlike a typical UPC barcode, the EPC system assigns a unique number to every single item that rolls off your manufacturing lines or store shelves. Instead of grouping items under one barcode identity, EPC systems allow your item to have it's own unique identity.

Due to their small size and low cost, RFID tags are built directly into clothing, drugs, auto-parts and other products during the manufacturing process.

RFID readers are used to obtain the signal transmitted by the tag. This would allow for continuous identification and tracking of your physical items as they move from one location to another. RFID tracking enables a your company to keep track of your products at all times.
